As promised, a look at some of the words that helped trim down my latest draft of Pirate Book! Now, I know what you’re thinking - “Holy crap, Sara, a lot of these words are necessary! I mean, IT for god’s sake??” And yes, you’re right. But that’s part of being an author – not every use of these words needs to be cut, and thus, you shall have to use your writer’s intuition to differentiate between the necessary and unnecessary times. “But HOW??” Well, you … you know what? How about I ‘splain all this in semi-regular Instagram videos? Because there’s a LOT more than just these words that you can slash ruthlessly from your glorious glorious tome — this list doesn’t even touch on passive voice, or emotion vs feeling, and then there’s the whole messy business of content edits and just drafting the damn thing to start and WHERE do you even start and world building and and and—

So I’m gonna do Instagram writing advice videos under the hashtag #minutewriters! It’s as if Instagram knew I’d be starting with all things clarity, as they only allow a max of 60 second videos (and as we all know, the soul of clarity is brevity). But honestly, who has time for anything else?? Join me a few times a week as I talk REALLY FAST for a minute about writing stuff. Firstly, I’ll start by explaining some of the finer points of the words on this list. Because sometimes you do just need to use JUST, and there’s just no getting around it.
