Did you do any special research for this story?
I had a lot of fun researching real historical examples of counterfeiters and forgers for this novel. And did you know Napoleon really did carry out a plan to flood Russia and Austria with fake notes to destabilize their economies? In ‘A Counterfeit Heart’ I decided to play ‘what if…’ and imagine he was planning the same thing for England.
Where do you get your ideas?
Lots of my ideas come from real historical people and events. Some of the things I’ve uncovered in my research seem so outlandish and unbelievable that I don’t put them in my novels for fear of being told they’re ridiculous!
Who was your first auto-buy historical romance author?
Laura Kinsale is definitely an auto-buy for me. Her use of language is masterful and her books always feature unusual settings that really take her books to the next level.
