Sinks That Won't Stay Up

This is for all sinks that won't stay up when you want them to and for all that won't go down.

How hard can it be to at least be consistent?

I ask, how many times have I stacked you with dishes, all in the proper order with plastic lids in between so they don't stick together; and a bowl in every corner: not always easy to find, so I have to substitute a cup because I don't have enough dirty bowls... But I finally get it balanced to perfection, with all kinds of suds rising to the top - almost spilling over. Nice hot water soothing away all the oatmeal and goulash. I'll vacuum a little, while they soak.

Did I say, soak? But alas! It was not to be. That's okay, I can load it up again.

Where did I go wrong? I pulled down on the little black plunger thing, and lined it all up. I started with a big square upside down plate, making sure there was no silverware (or plastic ware, which I actually prefer) to get in there under the plate, and upset the little white, vanilla-scented plunger strainer thing. I listened for any sounds of leakage, no matter how faint, dripping past the adjoining sink drain, and there was no such sound.

I am befuddled! But that's okay, I can do it again.

This time, while I'm trying to line everything up again, every little thing that is sitting on the edge of the sink falls in; jumps up and falls in, I swear.
But I finally get it all set up again with new dishwashing liquid, (like I love pouring it down the drain) and all sudsy galore, and go to wipe the counters off: with the refrigerator and the stove, probably a ten minute job - tops. This time, when I come back, it's only down halfway. Yay! I can work with that... pump it up a little while I start to scrub, rinsing the plates and the bowls, setting them neatly in the dish drainer... sparkling, squeeky clean - a job well done.

Now it's time to load it up again. This time, I'm even more careful than before to make sure the stopper is seated properly, but we all know what happens next; over and over again until one day, the sink is stopped up.

That's okay, I can take the elbow off...
