*** DEAR MR. BEZOS I was just made aware of a new book (Hitler’s American Model), published in 2017, which is listed on amazon in the US and in Germany, which has a swastika on the cover. Can you please explain to me why that book (and many others on both sites) may have a swastika […]
Because of ongoing internet/computer problems (part of which may or may not be repaired now), I have been very little on GR since last November. However, I have been (on and off) following your problems with Amazon. There are hundreds of books on Amazon with the swastika on the cover. So why not your book??? Does not make any sense at all.
Not accepting the swastika on the book cover of your book is simply OUTRAGEOUS! And so is the fact that Mr. Bezos still has not answered your letter.
I am anyway getting rather pissed with Amazon (to say it ladylike :-)) for another reason. Amazon has again removed my 1-star review of "Er ist wieder da" (engl. title "Look Who's Back", meaning Hitler) without even letting me know. When I first posted this review on Amazon, a few years ago, there were also problems, with Amazon ending up apologizing and posting the review. And now I found it gone again. (Here is the link to this review on GR: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show....)
Not only that. Quite often, when I consider buying a book, I first read the 1-star and 2-star reviews on Amazon to start out with. It is fairly easy to determine whether or not the complaints in these reviews are well-founded or just nasty or stupid. Now lately, I find on almost all the books I check that the graphic shows that there are 1-star and 2-star reviews, but the reviews themselves are gone. (And I am rather sure that Amazon will soon get around to "correct" the graphics as well.)
If I had more time, I'd complain to Amazon about this. Since I don't, I just will not post any more reviews on Amazon and will post my reviews only on Goodreads. (I know that GR is owned by Amazon, but it still seems to have its own management.)
I don't think Amazon is doing itself a favor by acting the way it does. I am about to sign up to a different website to purchase my books.
Back to your book: There are hundreds of books on Amazon with the swastika on the book cover. If anyone at Amazon thinks that your book has neo-Nazi tendencies, he or she should admit him/herself immediately to a mental hospital.
One does not even have to read an excerpt of your book to see that your book is not a neo-Nazi product, a look at your last name will do. Weinstein is a clearly Jewish name, and the chances that a Jew will write a pro-Nazi book is not entirely impossible, but the chances should be about one in a million.
I really ask myself if I should continue purchasing books from a company that acts the way Amazon does and who seems to employ totally brainless people. There should be more deserving companies to purchase my books from.
Best wishes to get your problem with Amazon solved!
Lilo
P.S. Since we still remain haunted by Murphy's Law, my own books (amongst them my memoir "Time Travel into Babyhood" with the swastika in the cover) remain unpublished. Sigh!
