I’ve always wanted to write stories that get stuck in my head like songs do. I’ve known a fair amount of stories by Kundera and Carver and Hempel and Munro that I must read again and again like songs. I have a feeling that this painting will rest, and then be called upon in a state of recapitulation in very much the same manner.

The painting is titled, “Adieu,” or goodbye. I love that it wrestles with everything, the waves, the goodbye, life, love, stability, death.
