While the government may not own companies like Google and other social media firms, they do have control over them.
Social media firms collect information on us, and government can claim that it's not spying on us. However, the government can just go and get this information from the social media companies.
Can we then go after the social media companies for selling out to the government?
Nope.
Congress has exempted them from all liability.
