Toledo Heart Walk, More than a Goal

Heart Walk Allows me to Cross an Item off my To-do List

Heart Walk

The Heart Walk was not a specific health goal I set for myself this year, but it will help me mark one of those goals completed.

A year ago today, I started on a new health journey. If I’m to be completely honest–there was a voice in the back of my head whispering this will end the way all the other diets and journeys have: with failure.

But it hasn’t.

Maybe because it’s not a diet, it’s truly been a lifestyle change.

There are certain foods I don’t eat, but I’m not even tempted by them anymore. Because I know if I do eat these foods, I will feel–quite frankly–like crap. I will have pain, inflammation, no energy. Putting the right fuel in my body has the opposite effect.

Twelve months later, instead of drowning in pain, I’m pain-free. I’ve lost weight (a lot of it) and I’ve regained mobility–my life. A life that would most likely have fallen prey to heart diesese if I hadn’t made these changes.

But at the beginning of this year, I wanted to set some health goals that weren’t tied to a size of clothes or a number on a scale–because it’s been about becoming healthy more than anything else.

One of those goals was to walk a 5k–something that was not even possible a year ago. When looking for one that would fit into my schedule, I came across this Heart Walk…and it made so much sense.

So, I will be walking 1) to cross off a to-do item, yes. but 2) for good heart health and good over all health.
