Those are great links. It is sad that compassion alone doesn't work for so many people, but there's hope that in bringing home the practical costs as well, they may be moved.

There have been two studies for this, for Africa and India. Dr. M. G. Lee Badgett presented a preliminary study for India at the World Bank: 1,7% of the GDP could have been lost due to homophobia.
Adebisi Alimi, a LGBT activist, did a similar calculation for Nigeria and Africa. He talks about 1% of the GDP of Nigeria being lost to homophobia. And that's only one country.
