Great! Now you can get started on another prequel for Bartemeus! I'm thinking Cleopatra and Marc Anthony are magicians in ancient Egypt … just think of all the hijinx and mayhem Bartemaus and Faquarl could get up to!
Or maybe a story about when they assassinated Genghis Khan with those poisoned grapes? Or when Bartemaus was a spear-carrier for Gilgamesh? Or when Atlantis fell? Or what happened to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon?
OMG! With the history at your disposal the fodder is essentially endless for possible books!!!

I'd also love to see Baremaeus go on a quest to bring Nathan back from the dead. Maybe an adventure into "the other place" and beyond...

I love the Bartimaeus books, but I think Mr. Stroud is wise to move on as an author and not get bogged down in repeating his old work. Learning and growing is important in new directions is important. If he feels inspired to write another one, I'll enjoy it hugely, but I advise against pressuring him. That way mediocrity (if such a thing is possible for Mr. Stroud) lies.

(Besides, it's a bit insulting to him to say, "Nice work, now do something different." And it's not fair. The Lockwood books are of equal quality to the Bartimaeus books.)

I think it is unfair of you to tell me what I should think or feel. We all are intitled to have our opinions and speak them freely.
I have read all the Lockwood books, and will continue to buy and read every last one of them, however I enjoy this author and would like to have more to read from him in future and I am making my desires known. I believe I am well within my rights as a fan to ask for anything I wish, as are you.

That would be amazing! I would buy that and re-read it again and again as I have with all of Jonathan Stroud's books. He has a fabulous imagination.
I went to book signing in 2010 when he came to the US - we drove 200 miles to see him for the Solomon's Ring book signing. He thought my teenage son was the fan - my son said, "No … not me, my mom". I got hit with the biggest case of star struck shyness that I thought I was going to faint.
He's really nice - I imagined him to have Bartemeus's personality, but he was very shy and humble. My husband took pictures, and I didn't notice until he pointed out that Jonathan Stroud and I were dressed identical: long sleeve black tissue weight tee shirt, and jeans.
Very nice man.

There are times and places where requests for certain works are appropriate, and times and places where they're insulting. If I were Mr. Stroud, and I'd posted this -- thrilled to finish a book I'd spent a year on and wanting to share my triumph -- and the response was to demand something different, I'd be extremely hurt. On the other hand, if someone sent me a fan letter saying that they loved a certain series I'd written and wanted more of it, I'd be extremely flattered.
It's possible that he feels differently. But I'd rather err on the side of not ruining my favorite living author's day . . .

I'm very glad you get to decide for all of us what is insulting, and that Jonathan Stroud is hurt.
Your opinion is your own - take a moment to dwell on the fact I am not telling you how you should feel or behave, and believe me I've got my own opinions I chose not to share publicly out of courtesy sake.
The fact that you would rather not err on ruining your favorite living author's day, but you elect to ruin mine is not very polite. If you don't have something nice to say perhaps you should keep that to yourself.

I'd love to debate with you for the rest of the day, but I am busy.
While I appreciate your opinion, this really is irrelevant. Have a wonderful day Deborah.

I am so excited!! I love these books so much, and I am waiting with anticipation! I would like to say hurry, but I would rather let you take your time so I can read something amazing, and I am sure it will be, because the other books were so amazing!

a bartimaeus book every 5 years would be nice (its going on 7!!) and new ideas/series in between :) Its the only character i can keep imagining reading aside from Aang. Which reminds me, wonder whne the last time bartimaeus updated his blog was.

Wow. Time does fly. Maybe we can get a book a year for eternity from any series? I'd settle for anything Jonathan Stroud-esc, and the Amazon account is primed with cash!

yup its been a long time...think i've read all the bartimaeus books 5-6 times. At least we're letting Jonathan know that if he ever wanted to peruse Bartimaeus (& Faquarl :] , love their banter) again, he'll have a fanbase!!!!

Just happy that Lockwood turned out to be a whopper of a series! Loved the Mansion & Mall scenic descriptions and that Jar.
Was hesitant on reading the first book , because i didn't particularly like Heroes of the Valley. But i'm glad i picked it up.

Congratulations Mr.Stroud on completing this phase of teh book !!!
