It is one of many vegetable-based pet names we exchange with one another. In fact, we have an entire subset of family in-jokes based on cauliflower. You just never know what you’re going to get with those Verhoeven kids! So if it hasn’t been obvious enough before, Beth and Anne are very much my sister and I - where Beth is more sage-like and Anne is much more depressive. Anne is an exaggerated time capsule of myself frozen in the worst period of time. Beth is more of a device than a real person, although drawing her gives me great joy!
And in the background is the most elusive and eldest of the Bell brothers, Josh, Beth’s boss/landlord/roommate. The lines of communication are VERY open between them, can you imagine.
