Three tracks available:

TRACK 1

Morning – Plot Challenged: 4 Ways to Plot Writing Success

Do you write character-driven, seat-of-the-pants stories? Is your hard-drive full of great ideas you couldn’t get past chapter 5? Do readers complain your work is too quiet? As a card-carrying member of plotless anonymous, I struggle with plot, too. In this workshop, I will share the plotting secrets I learned from my MFA advisors, New York Editor and favorite plotting guides. We will discuss examples and practice on your work. By Angela Morrison

Afternoon – Get them Talking: From Dialogue to Scene

The biggest mistake beginning writers make is page after page telling a story rather than showing the reader a story in scenes. Scenes? Yikes. How do I do that? Easy. Just get them talking. Scenes are merely dialogue with stage direction. Free-write a page of dialogue then edit it to perfection or bring your first chapter for intensive revision. Dialogue punctuation secrets included! By Angela Morrison

TRACK 2

Morning – Writing Mistakes Not to Make

Common mistakes many writers don’t realize they make. How to make your writing stronger. Janette will do a critique of the first few pages of writers brave enough to share. (Bring a few pages of the beginning of your WIP if you would like.) By Janette Rallison

Afternoon – Scrivener 101: Why Do So Many Authors Use Scrivener?

I would, but I am just so used to MS word. Would using Scrivener really improve my writing and publishing process? If you have ever asked yourself these questions this is the class for you. At the end of this workshop you will have a practical understanding of why Scrivener is an optimal writing and publishing solution for your writing process and business. By Dustin and Tamara Thompson.

TRACK 3

Morning – Indie Books: Formatting for e-books

How to set up an account. How to load a file etc. (Bring your laptop and a mock story.) By Tamara Passey

Afternoon – Indie Books: Creating Covers & Marketing

Marketing Starter Kit for the Indie Author and Book Covers-Self or Hire a Professional. We’ll go over cover design basics, planning a launch, obtaining reviews, online marketing and more. Learn what marketing activities can make the most impact and leave with a plan to help more readers find your book. By Tamara Passey

CLOSING SESSION – Q & A BY WORKSHOP FACULTY

Tamara Passey, Janette Rallison, Tamara and Dustin Thompson, Angela Morrison
