Winter
Winter, (Lunar Chronicles Series, Book 4), Marissa Meyer
Blurb:Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mark her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won't approve of her feelings for her childhood friend--the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn't as weak as Levana believes her to be and she's been undermining her stepmother's wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that's been raging for far too long. Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?OMG, I loved this book! I've enjoyed all of the series, but Winter and Cress were just amazing. The characters and the storyline are brilliant and, despite the fact that it was a very long book, there was no point at which I got tired. Cress and Thorne are still my favourite pair, but Winter and Jacin were a close second! Winter may be a little nuts, but she was so cute and innocent that it was impossible not to adore her. I also enjoyed how she interacted with the other characters, especially Scarlet, because (unfortunately) I can imagine myself being just as impatient as she was.I enjoyed the multiple view points, but since the book is entitled Winter, I thought there would be more from her POV.The ending, with the soldiers was unexpected and a nice twist, and I liked how we saw the characters at the end resolving everything and coming together once more. The only disappointing thing was that Iko didn't get a HEA and I'm desperately hoping she gets her own book... perhaps with Kinney, that would be interesting! My favourite quotes from 'Winter':' "I need him as much as he needs me. But that doesn't make it love."Winter lowered her lashes. "Actually, dear friend, I suspect that is precisely what makes it love." ''Dreaming was for people with nothing better to do.'' "... How does it make anything better?""It does not make anything worse." ''... broken isn't the same as unfixable.'' "... Are you hallucinating right now?"Winter forced a smile. "Not unless you are a figment of my imagination, but how could I ever be sure one way or the other? So I will go on believing you are real." ''Scars, scars. She was coming to have so many. She wondered if it was wrong to be proud of them.''She was trapped. Thorne was captured. But they had been heroic.'' "You're my princess, right? You were always going to be my princess, no matter what you were born, no matter who your dad married." '' "I have a computer in my brain," she said. "So while I'm not going to tell you that I am the smartest or, by any means, the most experienced person in this room, I would suggest that no one use my youth to believe that I am also ignorant." ''One should never save cake for later when it can be eaten now.'
