Michelle’s Choosing to See the Good Challenge
I was talking to my mom the other day about the topic of my blog for this week and rattling off a few ideas that I was ruminating on, when she boldly looked at me and said, “Please write something uplifting. So many people I speak to feel such negativity around them, we need something lighthearted”. Though my first inclination was to disagree with her on that (as mothers and daughters do), I sat there for a moment, thinking about what she had just said, and realized she was right. We need some lightheartedness; we need a reminder to focus on the good.
Lately I have felt called to share my tips and strategies on mangaging life when it feels difficult, and to be honest with you, these past few months have felt tough with the separation and anxiety around us. In these trying times, I find myself recalling this Aristotle Onassis quote, “It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light”.
While there will always be sadness, disappointment, anger, and injustices of the world, we must remember that the happiness, the good, and the positives are here too.
Life is never just one thing; it is never all bad, and it is never all good. Both are equally important, both have incredible meaning for our lives. The disappointing parts of our lives show us where we have work to do, helping us learn and grow; while noticing all of the love, compassion and goodness creates the space for infinite possibilities.
This week I offer a challenge for you to focus on the good.
Rather than feeling trapped in deep seeded anxiety for something going wrong, can you have gratitude for your ability to notice it, learn from it, and choose again.
Rather than ruminating on what’s lacking, acknowledge what is already present in your life, and how it can help you keep moving forward.
Rather than picking up on someone else’s flaws, look at the beauty that is within each and every person.
Life is all about choices. We choose what thoughts we allow to occupy space in our minds and we choose our actions that lead us down our life’s path. Choosing to see the good, even when it’s hard, will ultimately bring you to where you want to be.
I hope you will join me in my challenge to see the good in your life. Though we are different in our beautiful ways, we are all sharing this time and space together as one, and I’m so grateful for all of you who are here with me!
Let me know your experiences “to see the good” in the comments below.
xoxo, Michelle
