Writing Tips - Why I Don't Use Character Profiles
Read Mikey Campling’s piece a few hours ago and I found it so relatable! I wanted to respond in that moment but I was taking my son to a doctor’s appointment and couldn’t. Anyway, now that I have a second… I also hate filling out forms. (Like, really hate.) And character profiles may work for some people, but they definitely don’t work for me. I enjoy getting to know my characters. And every time I think I have someone figured out, I discover a side of them I didn’t even know existed. (Although to be fair, none of their sides exist because they’re fictional.) Anyway, I went through this recently with a certain TVM character. At first, I loved them. Then, I hated them. Now, I love them again, but for totally different reasons than before. This process is admittedly weird, and may not work for some, but it definitely works for me.
