I’m running a free book promotion on Raising Hell, and The Worst Noel at Smashwords as part of their read an eBook week. (My most popular book, Cigerets, Guns and Beer is half off at $1.50). But I’m not that great at promoting. Fortunately, Sally Cronin has a few promotion tips I can use and I thought I’d share them with you.
Smorgasbord - Variety is the spice of life
I have been offering free book promotions for the last three years and if you have any doubts about spending time promoting other authors, let me assure you it is time very well spent.
It opens the door to meeting like-minded and talented writers who are more times than not, very generous and love offering support and promotion in return.
It encourages more people to visit your blog. Not just for the author promotions but for your other posts as well. It also develops your other networks on social media
It generates more interest in your own books.
A few things that are key to making the most of free promotional opportunities.

“Wind Eggs” or, literally, farts, were a metaphor from Plato for ideas that seemed to have substance but that fell apart upon closer examination. Sadly, this was his entire philosophy of art and poetry which was that it was a mere simulacrum or copy which had nothing to offer us and was more likely to mislead.
As much as I admire Plato I think the wind eggs exploded in his face and that art and literature have more to tell us, because of their emotional content, than the dry desert winds of philosophy alone. ...more
