About a week ago, the redoubtable Adrian Shotbolt (aka The Grim Reader; he always threw Bones Are Made to be Broken a good review last year) asked me about how music influenced my writing and I jumped at that topic in half a minute. Music is huge with me, to the point that for a significant portion of my teens and twenties, I was an insufferable prick about it.

My first paid writing assignment was as columnist for THE CLARION CALL, Clarion University's student newspaper (I was officially the "Circulation Manager", but the job was so mind-numbingly simple it took five minutes and the outgoing Editorial Board, upon giving me the job, pointed out that they just wanted to give me something that would put me in the bullpen). Since then, I've dabbled with the idea of nonfiction writing again--scratch a writer, get someone who can't shut their goddamned mouth--but I'm a lazy researcher and while I was an okay journalist, I enjoyed just riffing on things. So there you go.
