Keeping readers informed and up to speed is one thing, drowning them in repetition is another. A recent read drove the point home for me. A character was being briefed about a new job, and the potential employer laid out what he’d be doing, and why. A chapter or two down the road, when he’d been hired and was having his orientation with the employer, those same points were repeated, almost verbatim. Skim territory—if you’re lucky.
