Howling For More

Sorry I haven’t been posting much. It’s been a long, shitty year for this liberal snowflake. And it’s only February. I’m emotionally exhausted and pretty sure my Senators and House rep are sick of taking my calls. Too bad!

[image error]But this isn’t a political post. Let’s talk about books! I’m over halfway done with rewrites on Howling For More, Stefano’s stand-alone Lily Quinn novel. And guess what? This one will actually be a novel! Right now, the word count is at about 46,000 words. Most of the Lily Quinn books are between 25K and 32K. A novel is 50K words and Howling For More should break that mark in the next couple of weeks.

Fuck, guys. I’m so excited for this! This is our first full-length erotica novel! (Hehe, full length.) And I’m having so much fun writing Stefano Rossi as a point-of-view character. Aron and I decided pretty early on for Lily Quinn that we did not want to have a wizard as a main character. The Merlinic magic we conceptualized was simply too complicated and too exacting for us to juggle into managing story, character and world building at the same time. But now… well, readers of the main LQ series are familiar with the world and the characters. Now there’s room to talk more about the magic. So we have! It’s still not a bunch of tedious step-by-step recipes, we hope, but it’s been so much fun to dig into Stefano’s magic a bit.

And I like Stefano. He was always my second choice to hook up with Lily in the main series. He never came close to first – the story of Lily and Max was one of the first things we developed when outlining Lily Quinn – but I sometimes wistfully wonder what the series would have been like if Lily/Stefano had been the main romance. Very, very different… Stefano as-is in the series isn’t good romancing material. He’s married to his job. Stefano never had Max’s devotion to Lily, which was important to us.

But I’m still very fond of Stefano Rossi. I do love my brooding badass boys, so it’s good to give my favorite werewolf hunter his own story and his own well-earned happy ending.

Come on, that’s not a spoiler. All main characters get their happily ever after in Lily Quinn!

That’s about it for now. I’ll post again when I’ve made some more progress or just can’t contain my over-excited squees any longer.
