when you write poetry, do you write it all out as prose first and then fit it on the page differently? or do you space the lines out etc as you're writing? im new to writing poetry and just curious. :)

I write it as stanzas! I don’t necessarily plan where they end or how many lines they’ll be, I just let the words take their own shape and then I’ll go through and change things up and structure them if need be. Prose and poetry are not the same medium and art form so they can’t be written in the same way, not in my opinion anyway. It’s quite a cool idea for switching things up though like taking a piece of poetry and trying to turn it into prose and vice versa.
