TimRiders: MineCraft - Diary entry1

As you'll know from my previous blog post, over the next few months I'm going to be working with a very talented and creative bunch of people to produce a 'play' based on TimeRiders which will be performed within the virtual space of MineCraft!Odd-sounding concept at first,I know. But, I'm beginning to get with it now. The idea is that a team of voice actors, playing the roles of Liam, Sal, Maddy and the support units will perform their lines on stage in Derry, Ireland, while a team of 'puppeteers' will control their avatars on a server where the 'sets' will have been constructed by a dedicated team of MineCraft architects.The play will be streamed live for millions of viewers world wide, and, part from being fun for all involved, should do two very important things; firstly...it'll demonstrate that something like MineCraft CAN be used as a story-telling medium. Secondly, hopefully, millions of young lads out there who (perhaps) spend a little too much time playing MineCraft and other games may be inspired to give those dusty old things, 'books', a go. (Starting with TimeRiders hopefully!).This week, on Thursday, I'm travelling down to London to meet with the team and have our first workshop. I have the bare bones of story lined up for the play. But first, I need to work out what scenes and settings are do-able, what technical limitations we may have....that's the purpose of this workshop. I'll be posting again on Friday, the progress and results of this first session, hopefully with one or two photos of the team involved. And perhaps...even a teaser as to what the story will be!So please do check back this weekend. And please do tell your friends and spread the word.
