What We’re Doing & How We’re Coping
So it’s been pretty quiet here on the blog since the fundraiser ended. Partly that’s because I’ve been trying to focus my energy on laying in some infrastructure in my life so that I can be more productive (and that tends to be boring to blog about.)

I think it's dangerous to get too worked up (or annoyed, or exasperated, or whatever else people have been feeling towards Rothfuss and the wait) about this because people run the risk of carrying those feelings into the book when it is actually released. Regardless of the quality, if anyone is annoyed with how long it took - or fed up with Rothfuss - the book will never live up to their unfair expectations. Having the "this better be good,it took long enough!" attitude will only, I feel, push people towards any bad qualities they may come across in the book, instead of being satisfied with reacquainting themselves with Kvothe and his world.
I'm not wringing my hands about the wait. If I feel like I need to refresh myself on any details while we are waiting, I am happy rereading the previous two, because they are quality reads!
I think people are more upset because he's always vague or just doesn't answer when progress on the book comes up. We hear about all these things he's doing that connect to his charity or other things he's doing, but not the book's progress or possible release date. GRRM has been dragging out his next book for years, but at least he tells people he's having trouble finishing it but he's working at it.

I know if I am pushed in the manner you are promoting it only makes matters worse. I would not want to deal with forums, or blogs or you.

That you think you are entitled to or owed anything beyond that is utter nonsense. Writers are not owned by those who buy their books.
I would like to apologize for enabling this. All I meant was I understand where the frustration comes from. I would rather Pat takes however long is necessary to finish the book to his standards than rush it out to appease people clamoring.

Unless you signed a contract for one, nope. You paid your $25 for the book you recieved. There is no further obligation.

Noobs Readers of "A Song of Ice and Fire" has been waiting for nearly 20 years to complete the saga. Compared to that patrick just took a break to continue..
For the impatient bunch of the people here, you know there are other book in the world, right? Go read something else and when the 3rd book is ready we can enjoy it .
In regards to the delay and everything around the thing, I've only one thing to say; it is true that nobody it's entitled to ask for anything that hasn't happened yet, Rothfuss doesn't owe anything to anybody, if he chooses not to write a 3rd book, it's up to him (after all it's his story, characters, etc.). That being said, I wonder if any other job/trade would be so forgiving on unprofessionalism and lack of commitment. If I had a project on my lap sitting idle for more than 3 weeks it would have a clear repercussion on me as a professional. I don't mind the wait, if Rothfuss states that he wants to deliver a product he's proud of, and that it's going to make thousands of persons happy... so be it, what bothers me its the lack of professionalism. Announce a date when the book it's going to be published and meet the deadline, I'm not saying it should be tomorrow, just pick a date and meet the deadline.
Quite frankly I've moved on to other authors.Other authors seem to be more aware of their readers and respond accordingly. Go ahead and take your time. I've lost interest. You have every right to do as you wish. So do I. I did enjoy the first two books but it is ridiculous the delays you put your readers through. Whatever this is you are going through, if you haven't a third book say so and get off that dime.
Hi Patrick, a couple of points, firstly that your books are some of the best I've ever read and they have brought a great deal of joy to my friends and I. Secondly that as you mentioned that you are working on structure and productivity, I've just read a book on the subject called 'Deep Work' by Cal Newport.

Just some thoughts to add to the pile:I love the books, crazy about them. Some of the best work I've read in a long time and am excited about the next ones. I think that one of the reasons they are so good is that the author took his time and did it right, I appreciate that. I support the author's process. Consider, this author is a Worldbuilder, in literature and in real life. Taking the time to build a solid foundation for his fiction, while helping people in RL, I have to be grateful for that kind of author. Props. Thank you.
Oh, and one more thing. Thanks for the blog posts and reading recommendations, you've put us on to some really great material.
"Waiting for Book 3" - I'm beginning to think it's brilliant satire of the fantasy genre, and 'book 3' is actually the waiting, the fans moaning, the vague non-committal statements from the author. High Art, Mr. Rothfuss!

Your logic is flawed. You had the right to wait until the trilogy was completed before buying and reading that first book. That was your decision. You are impatient and do not deserve anything. If I were in this author's position, I would probably tease readers like you with fake news.

I've been waiting for the third book in Melanie Rawn's Exiles trilogy since the second book was published in 1997. How do I do it you ask? How have I waited for almost 20 years for Book 3? Patience. And the realisation that there are millions of other books out there to fill in the time.
I'm not sure if this was meant as a harmless jibe or not, but I hope that people don't feel entitled to anything. Authors do write for a living, sometimes while they juggle lots of other projects and their personal lives, but what they do isn't something for readers to demand. It'll be ready when it's ready. We've been waiting for a while, so a bit longer won't hurt.
