What's in her name?

Names can be significant...or not. When I created Sorrel for my mystery series, I knew she would be feisty, independent, and strong. And she had red hair. So I considered a large number of names, finally settling on a nickname my dad had given me when I was small. (I'm not saying she is patterned after myself.) I had been a blonde the first years, and then my hair began to turn red. One day, seeing the glint in the sun, my dad exclaimed, "I thought I had a palomino, but I have a sorrel!" When I asked him which would be better, he laughed. "Looks are just on the outside." My Sorrel embraces that philosophy, which is apparent in her relationships with others in the books.
