The Aftermath and my favorite medievl website

Atlanta fans, I feel your pain, I do, for I’ve had lots of experience with heartrending losses. Hey, I’m an Eagles fan; we even lost a close one to the Pats in the 2005 SB. But I hope that even those who are not fans of the Patriots were able to enjoy a game that featured a comeback for the ages. Sorry, Joe Montana, I think you’ve been dethroned as the GOAT. (For non-sports fans, that means Greatest of all Time.) As for me, I am a happy camper this morning.
Back to medieval matters, it occurred to me that some of my new Facebook friends might not be familiar with one of the best sites for anyone interested in the MA. Here is the link; if you like what you see, you can subscribe to their newsletter, a fun way to start your day. http://www.medievalists.net/

Mardi I have to disagree about Montana being dethroned. The Niners and their organization played a clean game. The Pats and Brady have darkened the honor of the NFL over and over. Sour grapes from me? Sure, since I am a 49er fan. But, I think the difference in the clubs' character should come into play here. Anyone can win if they cheat over and over. http://elitedaily.com/sports/history-...

Sharon I'm a 49er fan, too, Mardi, and was horrified when Jed hired Chipwreck after the way he gutted my Eagles. I am sure lots of people agree with you about Joe Montana, who was one of the all-time greats. We'll just have to agree to disagree about the Patriots.

Wanda I usually LIKE what you post. I cannot today. Brady is not in the same class of men as Montana. Brady lacks integrity. No; he is not a G.O.A.T. but definitely another barnyard animal.

Sharon Wanda, obviously I disagree with you. I am fine with your holding a different opinion than mine--millions of people do. :-) Hey, I've heard rumors that there are some people out there who do not like my books!

message 5: by Mardi (new)

Mardi Well, on not liking your books, I could never agree. You are one of (if not THE) best authors I have read. And everyone I have recommended your books to have agreed.

message 6: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Thank you, Mardi. I confess it is difficult for all writers to understand how some readers do not enjoy our books, for they are such a integral part of us that it is impossible not to take rejection personally. I've been fortunate in that most of my reviews have been good ones, but I still remember the first bad review I got. It was for Sunne, and the reviewer really hated it. She concluded, "God has probably forgiven Richard III by now and in time He may even forgive the author." Now in retrospect, that is such hyperbole that it is funny, like using an AK-47 to shoot a hummingbird, and I've gotten a lot of laughs over the years when I quote it to people at my book readings. But at the time, it really hurt.

Leila Thank you for that link Sharon. Sorry I cannot join in re your discussions about your sporting interests as I live in England, but the Medievalist site is brilliant. Good luck to your team and leave the AK - 47 at home in all situations LOL. I cannot imagine anyone not liking your books especially Sunne and Here be Dragons. Very strange!

message 8: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Thanks, Leila! I can understand someone not enjoying my books, especially for readers not interested in history. But I did not understand--still don't--why that reviewer was so hostile to the entire book, finding nothing whatsoever redeeming about it. If I were the suspicious type, I might wonder if she were a secret Tudorite. :-)

message 9: by Leila (new)

Leila Well, there you go! LOL. I never thought of that. Seriously, I really do dislike the truly hostile reviewer who is given to personal comments. There is no need for it at all and yes, it must be extremely hurtful at the time. Don't let anyone ever take away your smile. You deserve it.

Sharon Thanks. As I said, I came to see how funny the review was, such overkill, and when I've quoted from it over the years, I am happy to report that the laughter was always aimed at said reviewer. But because it was my very first bad review and because it ran in my local newspaper, I did not get an advance warning from my editor; I just opened the Sunday paper and suddenly there was blood all over the kitchen--mine! I definitely agree with you that reviewers should never get personal in their reviews. Of course the Internet has changed so many of the rules of civility and things get said now that would have been unthinkable twenty years ago.

Leila Very true Sharon. I do think there should be a tighter check on reviewing, I guess though that Amazon is just too big now to do this.
