I found it easiest to block the more rabid of People I've Known For Years who have suddenly developed 1) screaming at me, and 2) incomprehensible opinions.
Better than screaming back.
I don't remember anything like this. And it's not as if I don't have strong opinions - I'm 67, for heaven's sake, and have no trouble expressing my opinions where necessary and warranted.
God help us all.

Mutual respect, especially when expressing an opposing opinion, is essential to meaningful dialogue and effective compromise.

Some people are NOT interested in meaningful dialogue and ANY compromise.
I have the perception that it used to be better, that there were such things as 'moderate,' but it seems those don't get elected any more.
I have faith in democracy, and the US, but my faith has been a little shaken lately.
But it's not a topic for GR.
