Many people dislike this article of mine, but every time I read it, it makes quite a bit of sense to me, as it aims to preserve and maximize life, prosperity, and freedom while contending with polar opposite political realities. Some of the story's main points: compassion to refugees but firm committment they must contribute to society if let in; create bipartisan solutions on immigration with radical technology; understand that immigration will change dramatically (and maybe mostly end) in the future due to automation; realize that the divide between rich and poor is increasing and pre-emptive measures need to be considered to avoid mass revolution and civil strife:
