Why I Don't Play the Lottery

I never win at anything. Ever. And I've grown to accept that my luck just isn't worth a spit. That's why I never pop to play the state lottery here in Virginia. For me, it's a shameful waste of my good money.

Now I don't fault or diss the folks who want to play. The lottery seems like it'd be a barrel of fun. But only if you win. My cousin Lester plunks down his cash every time for tickets. He not only gets a kick out of playing, but he actually pockets a few bucks. Not the big pot. Yet, he tells me with a sly wink. I just shrug back.

But I know ahead of time I'll never hit the winning numbers. The luck of the Irish just never blessed the Lynskey clan. Of course, I know the lottery is there. Ads run all the time. Every corner bodega I step into has out a sign plugging it. I'll pass. What's that classic Clint Eastwood line? "Do you feel lucky?" Short answer: no.

Happy reading out there!

Right, I can see the kick in playing it on a lark now and then. Maybe if I having a big run of luck, I'd buy a bunch of lottery tickets. Why not? Thanks for the comments.
