Amazon's Kindle Cloud Reader: Kiss Your App Goodbye

You just know this is how Kindle books will be utilized on the upcoming Amazon Tablet, right? This is fantastic, Amazon just released the browser-based Kindle Cloud Reader (which does sound like some kind of new age thing you need a shaman for) and I think this is really going to pour more fuel on the ebook explosion. I thought it was fantastic that you can now read Kindle books not just on a Kindle but on iPhones, iPads, Android devices, Blackberries and desktops using any number of their Kindle Free Reading Apps but now all you need is your web browser to access your entire Kindle library from anywhere you're connected.

Currently, the Kindle Cloud Reader only works for Chrome, Safari and Mobile Safari browsers but versions for all other major browsers such as IE, Firefox, etc… are in the works. I can tell you that it works really well on the iPad. For those of you who have been grousing that Apple made Amazon take out the direct Kindle store link from the iOS app, you'll be happy to know you can seamlessly access the Kindle store through the Cloud Reader to buy books.

So now you can easily access your Kindle books at work, on the go, on a friend's computer… all without needing to download and install an app of some kind. Very cool.

Check out the Kindle Cloud Reader today. And even better, check it out with some of my Kindle books!
