2) JOHN ADAMS
George Washington's vice-president
Second President of the United States, serving from 1797-1801
He assisted Thomas Jefferson in drafting the Declaration of Independence.
But before that, he and Jefferson faced off in a no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners, mud-slinging, back-stabbing presidential campaign. Jefferson called Adams a"hideous hermaphroditical character" who planned to smuggle prostitutes into the country. Adams called Jefferson a coward, a radical who would seize the country's bibles and allow "the refuse of Europe" to pollute American shores. Ironically, he would later die on the same day as Jefferson, July 4, 1826.
First president to live in the White House
Father of John Quincy Adams aka 6th president of USA.
The good news: not a slave-owner. The bad news: not a fan of abolition.
As a younger man, he wrote essays in various Boston journals under the pen-name Humphrey Ploughjogger.
Married his third cousin, Abigail Smith.
Wanted the President to be addressed as "Your Highness"
