The End of the World As We Know It – Guest Post by Misa Buckley

Ironhaven is an apocalyptic romance. "Pardon?" you say. "The world is ending and you have romance? Are you mad?" Well, the short answer to that is "Yes, actually," but when it comes to romance at the end of the world as we know it – why not?

It is a popular question in memes and pubs after a certain amount of alcohol. "Okay, the world is gonna end in an hour – what do you do with that hour?" While the time specified varies, most people answer the same way. Most people would spend that last hour with the one they love.

In Ironhaven, they have longer than an hour, though the actual time is unknown. The Earth is only barely habitable, but life goes on. People meet, they fall in love, they marry and have kids, or they fall out of love. The world might be ending, but they still hope and dream.

And why not? While we might fear new strains of 'flu and the ever-fluctuating stock market, global warming, a new ice age, and being hit by asteroids, humanity has a habit of overcoming impossible odds. We are born survivors, because where there is life, there is hope. And where there is hope, there are people thinking impossible things and inventing ways of putting death off for another day.

I think that is really quite wonderful.

The Earth is dying, and Lucian Hoyt is going to die with it. His only hope is his bitter ex-fiancée Genevieve Scott. If they're going to work together to get off this planet, they need to put their past aside, but even melting the ice between them can't erase all the scars.

Science Fiction, Steampunk and Paranormal Romance

Misa has been making up stories all her life, but it wasn't until 2007 when she tried the National Novel Writing Month. Though failing to reach the prescribed 50,000 words, she none-the-less realised that writing was her calling.

She loves the extraordinary, hence her preference for speculative fiction and love of Doctor Who. Her stories are all character-driven, with a dollop of romance and a sprinkling of sex.

She lives in the north of England with her husband, five children and two budgies. When she's not writing, she can be found watching Stargate SG1 and lusting over Ba'al, because bad boys are just more fun (and wear a lot of leather).
