you and i shared a swing set
with a few kids from the neighborhood,
you going so high, and i think i like
to stand next to you instead of swing myself
so i can watch your hair melt in the wind,
and see your laughter and try to touch you as
you fly past, my excuse to help you go a little higher
we found a tree to hide behind so our new friends
at the playground wouldn’t catch us kissing
they sang a teasing song,
but we just grinned because it’s true
all the time feeling that perhaps
we were kids again
