Again,
After the Death of the Ice Cream Man is a somber but ultimately transcendent meditation on death, mourning, and the rediscovery of love. It's a complete departure from
Dizzlemuck, in both style and tone, and its writing marked a major shift in the evolution of my personal voice. Despite its subject matter, there are some lighter moments in it, including a chapter about the main character's awkward attempts to win the attention of the girl of his dreams.
The image, by the way, is from a picture of me and my mom, circa 1973. The book was inspired by her death in 2003, and is dedicated to her:
In memory of Patricia Jayne Keefe-Cox(1940-2003)Mother MomHope everyone's doing well and staying safe!
