The John-thinks-the-baby-is-Sherlock’s speculation

I’ve been staying away from end times meta speculation because, like, it’s almost here and I’m tired. But I’ve seen this float by a few times.

As much as I hate the idea (I’ve never been a fan of the “big misunderstanding” obstacle of romances), this unfortunately makes sense to me.

1. Why all the constant references in S3 to Sherlock and Mary somehow being close behind John’s back? Lines like “Mary and I think it’s 5″ (or whatever the weight gain was for John). And “Give my love to Mary” after he shoots CAM. Or “Your name was the first thing he said when he woke up.” During S3 these lines just pissed me off and made me roll my eyes. Because Sherlock can’t REALLY like Mary, right? Esp not after she shoots him. BUT. Those lines actually make more sense if they’re placed there, narratively speaking, in order to create a “big misunderstanding” in John’s mind? So that, like with Janine and Irene, he thinks Sherlock has feelings he doesn’t have? I hate that, honestly, but it makes sense that those lines are setting that up, that John believes Sherlock and Mary are genuinely closer than they are.

2. On the positive side, IF this is the way they go, and John thinks that, maybe AT LAST there will be a confrontation about it. I’d love to see an argument where John accuses Sherlock of sleeping with Mary, and Sherlock is just like WTF? I did everything for YOU. I tolerated her for YOU. And besides, once and for all, I’m GAY. Maybe at last it would force them to communicate.

This miscommunication shit is getting pretty old though. I hate it when characters could resolve everything by just TALKING to each other. I hope they don’t wait til the end of E3 to resolve it.
