An interview with Thaddeus from Shackled to the Night

An Interview with Thaddeus

I had the opportunity to interview Thaddeus a couple of weeks ago.  Nice guy.  And damn, the man is nice on the eyes.  We met at an Applebee's just after the sun set and had a quick dinner.  Here is the transcript of the interview:

Carly:  Hi, Thaddeus.  Thank you so much for meeting me and telling me your story.

Thaddeus:  Sure.

Carly:  Okay.  So.  Like I said, I appreciate it, especially since I'm human and I know it's against your race's Behavior Doctrine to let humans know about the existence of vampires, so I am grateful for all the access.

Thaddeus:  Sure.

Carly:  So, how's Emily?

A warm smile came over his face at this point.

Thaddeus:  She's good.  I told you she's got a babe within her, right?  And it's a female vampire?  Can you believe that?  A fucking female vampire?  Excuse my language, by the way.  But shit…how awesome is that?

Carly:  I think it's wonderful, Thaddeus.  I hope I get to meet her.  Do you have any names picked out?

He sighs and stabs at his chicken breast.

Thaddeus:  Actually, we're doing a little arguing about that.  She wants something eccentric, I want something a little old fashioned.  One thing we do agree on is the little girl will not be named Rusalka!

He laughs.  And I do to.  I wouldn't strap that name with my worst enemies daughter.

Carly:  I don't blame you, Thaddeus.  Can you tell me what else is going on in the house?

Thaddeus:  Well, there's some shit with Aiden.  I'm not sure what that is, but he can tell you about it.  I can't believe the guy has a kid though.  Man, I didn't see that one coming.

I nod, and let him talk.

Thaddeus:  And I can't believe he fell in love with a human.  I mean, I did to, but let's face it – before Mother Nature showed up, Emily and I were toast.  Rusalka was going to make sure we were very dead.  He did it, and no one intervened.  Must have been that sixth sense he has going on that kept him hidden…that's the only thing I can think of.

I watch as he looks out the restaurant window and runs his hand through his blond hair.

Thaddeus:  He's one lucky motherfu…he's one lucky guy.

Carly:  So, do you have an inkling on what's going on with Aiden?

Thaddeus:  Yeah, probably.  But that's not my story to tell.

Carly:  Well, do you think he would share it with me?

Thaddeus puts down his fork and takes a long drink from his whiskey and coke.  He looks around the restaurant as if contemplating his answer.

Thaddeus:  I don't know.  You'll have to ask him about that.

He drinks his whiskey and coke in one long slurp, takes another stab at his chicken breast, and asks if we're done with the interview.

Carly:  Almost.  Just one last question.  How close are you to getting Victor Marano?  It seems the guys slicker that a wet fish.

Thaddeus nods.

Thaddeus:  That's the understatement of the year.  I have Cy looking into the owners of the warehouse we found.  Aiden and I are going out almost nightly looking for those little shits who keep killing people.  Frankly, I'm not sure what else to do.

Carly:  Well, I hope you find him and make him pay for the pain he's caused you and Emily, as well as Emily's son Brandon.  I can't believe that Victor is his father.

Thaddeus puts down his fork, takes a deep breath, leans forward and looks me in the eye.  When he speaks, his voice is low and deadly.

Thaddeus:  Let me make on thing very clear, Ms. Fall.  First, that motherfucker may be the sperm donor, but I'm Brandon's father.

I nod, speechless at the intensity of Thaddeus, and the sensitivity he has to my words.  And I may be a little afraid as I know I am sitting across from a vampire.

Carly:  I'm sorry, Thaddeus.  I didn't mean to offend you.  I simply meant that he has caused more pain to your family than I can imagine.

Thaddeus sits back and nods.

Thaddeus:  He is a dead male walking, Carly.  A very dead male.

With that, he gets up and leaves the restaurant.  I notice on the way out he gives our waitress some money, and points to me.  She nods, comes over and asks if I need anything else.

I shake my head.  Thaddeus is nothing but a gentleman, yet he can be deadly beyond belief when needed.

As I walk out of the restaurant, I scan left and right, afraid that I might be in for some retribution from Thaddeus for my gaffe.  I don't see him, but I see Aiden in the shadows watching me, which scares me even more than if I had seen Thaddeus.

As I get into my car, our eyes meet.  I start up the engine, my eyes still on him, and he nods.  Then he turns and vanishes into the night.
