Calling all Troupers: The Birds and the Bees

Yesterday, the Worldbuilders fundraiser passed $1.8 million.

Support has been pouring in from all sides as people continue to donate and help spread the word. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all the help you have given us…

Also, we’ve been adding new items to our prize lottery left and right. We’re currently giving away more than $185,000 dollars worth of geeky swag. So much stuff that if you donate $30, you have a 12% of winning something. We’re giving away thousands of books and game...

Hey. You're not entitled to tell someone what to do with their life. He doesn't have an obligation to produce content for your enjoyment, or anyone else's, for that matter. We all love his books. If you're not willing to wait for the next one, maybe you should be reading something else. What Worldbuilders does is important, and I think it's great that he and so many others choose to use their influence to bring attention to these kinds of causes. It does a lot of good in the world. If you need recommendations of things to read until Doors of Stone happens, I'm sure there are plenty of people on this site who would be willing to help you out.

Wow. Just wow, man. Leaving aside the fact you can support charity and do a lot of other stuff while still writing a book, he doesn't owe you anything, so stop acting like he does. I have nothing but utmost contempt for your attitude. And I'm not sorry if I sound rude.

No, he doesn't owe you anything. You didn't sign any contract with him, nor is he obligated to do anything for you. It doesn't matter what your opinion on the matter is, because you neither have any implicit or implied entitlement to demand anything of him, nor do you have any power to force him to provide anything for you. The only power you have is to continue throwing a tantrum like some three year old child. He'll get the book to us when he damn well wants to, and not a moment sooner. And if he decides he doesn't even want to finish the third book, well, that's within his rights and power to decide.

message 7: by Jeid (new)

Jeid So, worldbuilders reached $1.8 mil.. I heard if it reaches $2 mil, Pat will have a Q&A vaguely related to some book he's writing, or wrote, or whatever... huh, I didn't know he writes book... whaddayaknow ;)

message 8: by Rikard (new)

Rikard Chillax Friend Heath. I too am dying to read the final book but let the man take whatever time he needs. Creative work can sometime take a long, long time - and I'm taking it as sign that he really, really wants to the end the trilogy with a book worthy the best trilogy through time, all categories. It's not like we're likely to die before it comes out (then I'd be well pissed off and become restless ghost...) so let's just wait and support our favourite writer. I know he's my favourite writer at least, by far.
All the best from Sweden.

Who the h$ll do you think you are?!?!? What right do you think you have to dictate his life?!? You, Heath, suck and are part of the problem with this world.
And to the rest of you who continue to jump on Pat about his book, you just need to shut the f^@& up and go do something useful with your lives

Rikard Heath wrote: "Christ, does no one else want at least updates from this guy. I must be the bad guy for saying what all of you cowards think."

So one is a coward for not agreeing with you in that Pat should give us an update about... nothing? Aye, then we're all cowards.

He's said plenty of times that once he'll have something to tell us about the third book, he'll tell us. So what good does it do to moan? I know you want to read it as does everyone else, but see it as a practise of patience and read something else while waiting.

I'm sure you're not a bad guy.

Jeid Rikard wrote: "He's said plenty of times that once he'll have something to tell us about the third book, he'll tell us."

While you guys have already been waiting for the third book for 5+ years, and in those years you did communicate with Patrick plenty of times, I only read book 1 and 2 this year, and I'm only getting on the Rothfuss train, so I try to look for the release date of the new book, and all I get is posts after posts on some other things Pat is doing, like reading with kids, or doing charity, or going to conventions. And comments after comments of half of you moaning that there is no info from Pat, and another half griefing on the other half, and protecting Pat... from what? Verbal abuse? So yeah, since there's no info from the author on the third book, I'd be more inclined to join the first half, and demand ANY update... literally, ANY... at least "yeah, I still remember about the book". Cause I don't see that he still does.

For those of you who protect the author, think about this scenario:
I'm a web developer, and I promised you the most wonderful website... I did 2/3 (two thirds) of it, and then just went on to different projects. Tweet about them, post blogs, and so on, and NOTHING about your website. I don't answer your calls, I don't answer your emails, I just plain ignore you... Are you still satisfied with 2/3 of the website, or do you still want to have a finished one?

And for those who doesn't get metaphors: I'm not saying Pat should grovel and give us a release date in early 2017, I'm saying that this lack of communication is a bit frustrating.

message 13: by Theresa (new)

Theresa I completely agree with Heath and Jeid. I don't mind waiting for a good book for years. But the not knowing whether he is ever going to finish the series or not, is the frustrating and aggravating thing.

message 14: by Rikard (new)

Rikard Of course everyone would like to know the date of release, but Pat obviously doesn't know and has said he's gonna give us an update when there is more to tell. He could guess of course but if it wouldn't come off then there'd be all sorts of cries from people and I guess that wouldn't be a superb working environment when fininshing his life work that he'll be greatly remembered for. Of course he's going to finish the series Theresa. Has he hinted otherwise? You don't write the first two books in a trilogy and then don't write the third after the other two became the smash hits they did.

Wether you like it or not, the author obviously doesn't know when he can get the book finished and has told his readers that he'll give an update when he has something new to tell us. That shouldn't be too hard to understand, should it? Even if we're all dying to read the third book I'm sure we're also all grown enough to continue our lives until it hits the shelves.

You're comparing apples and oranges, and you're doing so in the most ridiculously inane analogy I've ever seen. You should be ashamed at how poorly thought out your comment was. First of all, as a web developer myself, you either pay us up front, or you pay us by the hour. We don't operate on promises. Secondly, this isn't a business contract you've made. It's not even an oral agreement. Third of all, it isn't even a promise, since he never actually promised a third book.

If we were to use your ridiculously stupid analogy, then this would be a famous web developer telling people who only wished to be clients of his that he wouldn't put out a website for them, but would develop a community site they could all participate in sometime in the future. Notice the emphasis there.

You aren't his client. He didn't promise you anything. You haven't paid him for the third book. You aren't in an agreement or contract with him. He doesn't owe you anything. Not a book, not an update. Nothing. Stop being such an entitled child.

message 16: by Jeid (new)

Jeid John: As I said, your half is just griefing on the other half ;) Metaphor, it was a metaphor, not analogy... And he kind of did promise us a third book. Look at the end of the second book, did it look like the story was finished? Were you satisfied? Well, then stop waiting for the third book ;) I'll keep waiting for it though ;)

Rikard: Good point, we all need this kind of reassurance ;)
