He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who pursues worthless things lacks sense. – Proverbs 12:11
Not many know, but I had a video game addiction. Monday through Friday I’d come home from work and play for four hours a night. On Saturday and Sunday I’d play 12 hours each. I sit here typing and wondering, what did I gain from my 48 hour per week addiction? Nothing.
I gamed for 10 years or so. 24,900 hours I spent in a chair, staring at a computer screen, playing some dumb game. That’s 1,556 sixteen hour days or about 4 years and three months of my life, wasted.
Thankfully I’ve learned to make the most of my time. I figure that with every waking moment of my day I need to be seeking God, finding a way to promote His Will in this world, earning my wages, or enjoying my family.
All else is a waste. Yes, I get some downtime and watch NCIS or Code Black with my wife, but I monitor that time spent.
I’m supposed to lead my family – can’t do while staring at a screen playing some dumb game that gets me nowhere.
