Just speculating:
That scene: John and Mycroft aren’t real. Mycroft represents intellect, John represents more earthy pleasures aka the reality of love and attachment and all that comes with that. Sherlock is being forced to choose, to “kill” one for the sake of the other. The Final question, the choice: does the great Sherlock Holmes choose love or intellect?
Mycroft of course wants Sherlock to remain above it all and choose intellect.
John says nothing.
How can Sherlock be sure of what to do?! John’s not offering anything, he thinks. John’s stuck. Frozen. Silent. He knows what his brother wants him to do, Mycroft keeps prodding and prodding until finally Sherlock decides to take the risk. He interrupts and says the words… to Mycroft, and shoots him.
Finally John can speak. John, his heart.
Horrified we think Mycroft is dead at first - quelle horreur he killed his brother! - but then it’s revealed to be the mind palace
Nice! I’d love this.
