December Daily® 2016 | Day 06
Welcome to
December Daily® 2016 | Day 06.
Today I'm sharing a story that happened the other day which, as it was happening, I knew I wanted to include in this album.
The basics: Anna did an audio recording at my desk talking about her favorite tradition and her wish for this year. Totally something I would want to document and save - made even more special when listening to it in her own voice. In addition to transcribing her words, I created a QR code to "document" the audio file. Check out a whole lot more detail below about generating a QR code and other details for today's page.
Before we dive into all that, here's what Day 06 looked like as a foundation page:
And here's a look at what Day 06 turned out looking like my album - it actually has a front and a back - here's the front:
The front of Day 06 (Anna's story) includes a chipboard 6 + rubber circle from my
Main Kit + a merry craft die (cut out using a Evolution die cutting machine using white cardstock). I've got a freebie of the "merry" word art available in the shop here (packaged along with December Hopes + a joy circle).
I also cut a
6x8 page protector to hold the different size of this story and used the star washi tape from Pam Garrison's December Daily® Mini Kit to finish off the edge. Full details about that in the video below. I also added an Avery Index Tab along the edge and used Pendleton Crafter's Ink with the December Daily® Christmas Phrases stamp set for the stamped sentiment inside.
I actually started this page thinking I would use a digital layered template from my
December Stories 6x8 set (the one with two columns - one for her story and one for my story) but then decided to change things up mid-way and adjust the size of the pages to 4.5 inches x 8 inches vs. keeping them on one 6x8. The red comes from the layered template and the font is Remington Noiseless.
On the back is my story of watching her record her message. The "stories" chipboard is from the
December Daily® Chipboard Shapes set with the printed QR code adhered above.
I recorded her using
Quicktime on my Mac computer (she was using my Rode Podcaster microphone which I love and use for all my voice overs and presentations).
And seriously, I honestly didn't even think about getting a photo because I was having so much fun listening to her talk. She wasn't nervous, she was just sharing.
GENERATE A QR CODE TO ADD TO YOUR ALBUM
To figure this out I just googled "QR code audio" and basically
followed those directions.
Here are my steps:
Record Anna using QuickTime on my Mac.
Open the AIFF audio file that was saved (from QuickTime) in iTunes and go to File/Convert/Create MP3 version. This might be an extra step that you don't have to do, but it's the process I usually follow when saving and exporting audio files to share.
Add the .MP3 file to DropBox and copied the link (right click to copy DropBox link)
Use Visual Lead to generate the QR code (you can do three free and then you pay - at least that's what it looked like when I went through the process). I followed the steps and was able to choose to download the QR code as a PNG.
Open the QR Reader For iPhone on my phone and use the scanner to "read" the QR code I made and it took me to my DropBox link where I was able to click to listen to the file.
Hard to know whether in the future people will have QR readers on their phones. I assume it's only going to get more technical vs. less, but there are lots of examples of technologies that have come and gone. I figure if it works, it works and if it doesn't, it doesn't.
Here's a look at the front and back pages outside of the album:
DAY 06 | JOURNALING
Click to listen to Anna's Christmas favorite + wish for this holiday season.
Her Story // Anna, age 7 // Hi guys, this is Anna and today I’m going to talk about my favorite Christmas tradition. I think that my favorite Christmas tradition is
that, like, watching the Polar Express with my family and getting together and
drinking some hot chocolate on that hot chocolate part. You know when they go, “Hot
chocolate, hot chocolate!” And, also, I would like to say my wish, which, for this
year, is I really, really, really, really, really, really want to get together with
my family on Christmas Eve or something like that, put up the tree and decorate
it and have hot chocolate or some sweets or something like that and play music,
um, I mean Christmas songs. So, just a heads up, um, I just really, really,
really wanted to tell you that you’re going to have a great Christmas and if
you don’t, well try to make it one. So, yeah, bye.
My Story // Ali, age 41 // On Sunday I was working on my December Daily® album when Anna & Audrey came in to hang out with me. Audrey sat at Katie’s desk and Anna sat at my desk. My microphone was right at the level of her head and she wanted to know if it was on (it wasn’t at that moment) and then she started pretending she was talking into the microphone recording her own story. I immediately invited her to record something and suggested maybe she’d like to talk about what her favorite story was from today or something about Christmas. She did the rest. And it was so awesome to watch her. No fear, just ready to share.
