One Child

I say the most, when I am silent.

People do not speak, when they talk.

I know.

She was so little, when she came

into our precious world.

I put my right hand on her forehead.

I promised, I would take care of her.

I promised, I would always protect her.

In my silent silence.

That’s what I did.

I, just, could not let her down.

I, just, could not betray her.

I couldn’t.

She would always rely on me.

Her aunt Petra.

She could always count on me.

I made One Promise at the age of sixteen years old.

One Promise I could not break.

I just couldn’t.
