When I first saw the interior of the one level, spacious home in St. Helena, California, profiled in San Francisco Cottage & Garden magazine, I initially thought of the house in the Hamptons which played a starring role in Something’s Gotta Give. As well, it also includes similar finishes seen in the Barefoot Contessa’s East Hampton barn. With the neutral upholstery, vaulted ceilings and large gathering spaces both indoor and out, the home seems to encourage the residents and guests to relax, indulge, and forget about anything prior to or yet to come.
Designed by architect Backen, Gillam & Kroeger for a couple who had recently relocated from the east coast, the concept was to create a living space that felt intimate, yet open and part of its natural environment. The only question I have left is “What does the kitchen look like?”, as you will see below in the tour, that is the only room that remains a mystery, and I can only imagine how lovely that too would look. Enjoy the tour below and learn more about the design features here.
