The use of the word "Austerity" leaves many wondering - what is wrong with that? What is wrong with "tightening out belts?" Those who are trying to educate the public should begin with an explanation of what Austerity means in this context. i.e. No funding for roads, no funding for the up keep of our cities, no garbage pick up, no funding for safety over site, that is, no funding for food inspection, water management, sewer management, no funding for public schools, NO funding for any of the services that most people in developed countries have lived with and taken for granted their entire lives. The one area I left out was funding for the police forces in these countries. There will be plenty of funds for that. Many people, at least here in the US, think Austerity means that people will "just have to stop buying that new TV, name brand clothing, . . ." Of course some think it means the end of social programs, which it does. What they don't understand is what the social programs actually are. I wish the book "And the Weak Suffer What The Must" was read by everyone who is watching and not quite understanding what is going on in Europe, actually what is being pushed here in the US, we are going about it differently.
