My mom laughed because I couldn’t stop crying and called me melodramatic. I left after a few minutes, because I can’t take the people I love not taking this seriously. There isn’t a damn thing I can do but grieve right now. I hope my mom’s optimism is rewarded, and things turn out all right. But I’m a history major, and I know how this ended the last time.
Oh, God. I’m so sorry. That’s incredible. You’re not alone. I know, I feel so alone today, too, but we’re not alone. WWII is my special area of history, too. If it’s any consolation, Germany today is one of the greenest, most environmentally-responsible, left-leaning, immigrant-welcoming countries in the world right now. It’s clean and safe and very beautiful. Maybe in 70 years, America will have come to its senses similarly. For now, though… we must grieve. We must grieve for the world we thought we knew.
The trouble is that the racists and misogynists were always there. It’s just that it used to be considered a shameful thing, not a legitimate stance. Now every bigot in America (and everywhere else!) has been given a figurehead to justify their existence, their hatred, their wilful ignorance, and they’re rejoicing in it. Now it’s been made legitimate. That’s the worst part.
I’m so glad to have this community today. We’ll just have to hunker down and bear this the best we can, but together. So much love to you. <333333333
