Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here on this very fine evening to commemorate the Lincoln Corner Kuala Lumpur 10th Anniversary Celebration.
Honourable guests, ladies and gentlemen, please allow me to brief a little on what Lincoln Corner is. It started with Lincoln Resource Center or LRC, originally known as the U.S. Information Service library, or USIS, opened its doors to the Malaysian public on February 15, 1950 and continues to provide the most up-to-date and accurate information about U.S. policies, education, geography, history, society, culture, among others.
Named after President Abraham Lincoln, the LRC provides reference and referral services electronically on all aspects about the United States of America. Fields covered include foreign affairs, U.S. political and social processes, English language teaching and learning, communications, economics and trade, U.S. higher education, environmental protection, and arts and culture, among other topics.
The Lincoln Resource Center has partnered with several local public libraries to make special American collections called Lincoln Corners available to the Malaysian public. Today, there are Lincoln Corners in public libraries in Penang, Kedah, Perak, Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Sarawak, Johor, and soon in Sabah and Sarawak.
The Lincoln Resource Center is located in the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur while the physically accessible Lincoln Corners are located outside the Embassy across Malaysia in the states and cities mentioned earlier. Thus, here in Kuala Lumpur Library, we are celebrating its 10 years establishment.
Therefore, proceeding with today’s special event and without further ado, I would like to invite our honourable guest for this evening, Mr. Michael D. Quinlan, the Cultural Affairs Officer from Public Affairs, U.S. Embassy to present his speech. Please welcome.
Thank you, Mr. Quinlan. That was an awe-inspiring speech. I am sure that Malaysians are excited to look forward what Lincoln Corner has to offer in future’s time.

Thank you, Dato’ Sri Matshah. I would like to invite again Mr. Michael D. Quinlan accompanied by other VIP guests to join Dato’ Sri on the stage.
Honourable guests, ladies and gentlemen, now we will watch a multimedia presentation made special for Lincoln Corner Kuala Lumpur 10th Anniversary Celebration. Please enjoy.
