Second Degree

hajones-bb2Who has two thumbs and a second degree black belt in Shotokan Karate?

A fair number of people, probably, but now that number includes me as well! Still quite excited about that. Here I am moments after the graduation ceremony.

And what do you do after you get a second degree black belt? In my case, celebrate with a dinner at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants… then start training for the third degree black belt. Only four more years…

Howard Doesn't sound dumb at all! In my school, you get a gold bar on your belt for each level of black belt. If you zoom in on the picture, my finger is pointing below (rather than at) the two vertical bars on the belt.

Hah! These days a lot of folks where chest protectors while sparring so it probably wouldn't be an issue.

Also, totally worth it from the fitness side. I'm middle aged now, but I've never been in better shape.

Howard ...it has helped with that, too. You have to do stretches before each class, and it definitely has improved my flexibility. And, well, everything else.
