Place of the Year 2016 longlist: vote for your pick

Quite a lot has happened in 2016. The year has flown by with history-making events such as Brexit, the presidential election in the United States, and the blockade of Aleppo to name a few. To reflect on the year, we are opening up a poll to the public, asking you all to help us choose the one place in the world that truly defined 2016. This is an annual tradition for us, to celebrate the release of Atlas of the World–the only atlas that’s updated annually to reflect current events and politics. 2016 marks the 10th time we are choosing a Place of the Year and so we’re making it extra special.

We’ve consulted Oxford University Press employees around the world, spanning 4 continents, to ask them what they think belongs on the longlist for Place of the Year. OUP employees pulled through and came up with truly creative and brilliant answers. While submissions like “wherever a honey bee should live” and “Narnia” were appreciated, we narrowed it down to the below. Vote and let us know what you think the one place is that defined 2016.
