My dock used to be a nightmare. With Alfred and Launchpad, the only real use the dock has now is to let you know what apps are open. With Lion's de-emphasis on app management (open as many as you want!) I have to wonder if this is the direction the OS is going, and perhaps the dock is going away. Good riddance.
