Someone wrote and asked for an update on my writing projects, so… this is me being dutiful! The novel continues to grow alarmingly, haha. One of the things I like best about working on it is that I can incorporate favourite elements of so many of my fix-its into it. A piece of Act IV just worked its way in there lately and that’s cool. :)
I’m in the home stretch now and that’s wonderful because I’m dyyyying to write fanfic again! I just can’t interrupt the momentum I’ve got going on here to push through and write the rest of the thing! The big showdown is RIGHT around the corner now and it’s really exciting! One of the reasons I set the finale of The Legend of Martha J. Hudson in Prague was because I was always planning to set the finale of the novel there, so it got a big chunk of location research done early, so there’s a bit of that story in there, too. As I’ve said all along, this novel is an adaptation of Against the Rest of the World and Vena Cava, mostly, but my two main characters aren’t just copies of Sherlock and John anymore; they’ve taken on their own lives and personalities. Thomas is a little less sharp than Sherlock and a little more socially aware. Michael is definitely softer than John, but no less competent. Michael’s chapters tend to be more introspective, while Thomas’ chapters are usually more action-focused. Though, that said, Thomas is the first one to realise his feelings, and while Michael resists it intensely (creating months of angst between them), it’s in a Michael chapter when they finally get together, in a scene strongly related to Sonatina in G Minor. :) I think that if this thing is ever published, any of you who read my stuff will almost have to like it, because so much of it will feel familiar in a way that’s extremely intentional. :)
Meanwhile, my brain sketched out an entire next Johnlock fic. It’s all written in my brain. Once the novel’s done… there will be more Johnlock, and rather quickly. :)
