Stand Up & Be Counted - Eradicate Pettiness

Good Saturday morning to you all. I do hope you are having a great one.

Mine started out pretty well, thanks for asking. I got the second edits in on a secret project I'm working on and all in all, the story is a good one. Then I'm working on a revamp of a story that has sat on my hard drive for two years and is yet to be submitted and am satisfied with the slow progress there.

THEN - I came across something so vile in its pettiness, so uncalled for, that my day has been turned on its head.

A good friend of mine wrote a marvelous book, a m/m fantasy, historical, yummy piece of work that is getting RAVE reviews from professional reviewers and readers alike. This guy knows his stuff and his legions of fans are ravenous to read every word he writes, which, in my estimation, don't come fast enough. I shall be requesting his shopping and to-do lists to tide me over until the next release.

Anyway, I periodically check up on his reviews on Goodreads, since he spends an inordinate amount of time over there, trying to placate his fans with his clever repartee. ( It works, for the most part, by the way, because he posts snippets of his works in progress, which are gobbled up like missives from on high)

This morning, with only two sips of coffee to fuel my day, I viewed his GRs page, searching for new ratings for my favorite book, and low and behold,  I found an outstanding case of author pettiness and jealousy, hidden not so cleverly in her one-star rating of this book (begins with a S, ends with an N and is themed with the clever, Never Stop Fighting).

Well, my hackles were peaked, because I happen to know that this "author" HATES male/male and likely wouldn't read it if someone had a gun to her head. She also hates historicals, says they bore her within the first ten minutes and would quit writing altogether if she had to write one (she couldn't, believe me, she hasn't the wherewithal, but I pray every day someone begs her to so she'll quit writing the tripe she puts out).

This is the case of an author whose books don't sell and she's in misery. She seeks retribution against any author who dares sell more than she does, and believe me, that is everyone. Pearl S. Buck she ain't.

There is something suspect about authors who, with no explanation, leave petty ratings for fellow authors. Granted, I've reviewed books and left unfavorable ratings, but never without explanation and that explanation always has to do with the story and never the author.

This one-star rating was a direct shot over the author's bow, and the pettiness reeks.

This isn't the first time she's done this kind of thing and I'm sure I'll be a target for naysaying her, but this can't be left to stand without answer, and my author friend is too classy a guy to defend his book against childish behavior.

The petty author has been banned from author forums for her vindictive behavior and I'd name her but she doesn't deserve the recognition. Suffice it to say, when "witches" abuse their "power," it is time for a small crusade.

I don't get angry often, but this set me off.

I leave you with this line from the book in question:

You learn your wisest lessons from your enemies. Assuming, of course, you survive the encounter.

Sometimes it takes a scorpion to get the job done.

Till next time,
Luv,Brita
