Every Day I Tear A Leaf

Poem by my father, included in Home
Every day I tear a leaf     From my calendar, blanched by the sunHere's spring... It is so briefLeaves now falling, one by one...
Once more it's spring, the fragrance's sweetAnd blossom spreads again, againWith graying hair, there in the streetI sit: a lonely, crestfallen man
Do you remember: a student’s roomWith a single narrow iron bedThat eve, of golden summer bloomWe fried potatoes, words unsaid
The plates we set down on the floorAnd filled our glass with cheap, warm wineBetween our kisses, love we swore...For that lost moment, how I pine!
A star came on, peeking inOut of the depth of a strange, dark nightThe entire world was here withinA serenade of love, delight

"This radiant book is an exploration of the bond between a daughter and father and the book overflows with some of the most eloquent poetic moments in print. HOME is an invitation, a very personal one, and should not be passed over."
