Missouri Becomes Fourth State This Year to Approve Gun Carry Without a Permit
Bam!
While Missouri Governor Jay Nixon (D) did what everyone expected and vetoed a bill that would allow Constitutional, or permitless, gun carry in his state, the legislature was able to successfully override said veto, and now law-abiding Missouri residents will soon be able to not just keep, but bear, arms in the manner clearly intended by the Second Amendment.
While the securing of permitless carry is significant in and of itself, the way in which it was ultimately achieved, via an override in the face of a wave of pressure by a variety of Missouri media outlets, should be seen as profound, as well.
Gun Owners of Americas executive director, Erich Pratt, clearly overjoyed at the news, issued a press release, saying, This is a fantastic day. Four states have adopted permitless carry this year. So Missouris action in overriding the Governors veto brings the total number of states with Constitutional Carry to twelve.
The other 11 states that presently allow carry without a permit are: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Vermont, Wyoming, and West Virginia.
In his press release, Pratt hit right at the heart of the gun debate when he said, Law-abiding citizens should not have to ask for permission to exercise a constitutionally-protected right. Thats the beauty of Constitutional Carry, it honors the Second Amendment which says the right to keep and BEAR arms shall not be infringed.
To anyones knowledge, the right to keep and bear enshrined in the Second Amendment is the only constitutionally-protected right that has been allowed to be regularly disregarded by a seemingly-countless number of local jurisdictions, a large number of states, and even by the federal government.
