So I only watched Sherlock for the first time 2 months ago (was laid off, great time for a hobby!)

I had heard about TLJC before, in terms of ‘the sherlock fans think they are entitled to their gay-fetishizing ship’ and ‘the sherlock fans are rabid about it and want their ship so badly that they stomp on anyone/thing that disagrees’

I’m 25, I’m not crazy with fandom and i don’t lose my head over actors and characters, i know not to pressure people or be over demanding, i respect peoples headcanons and think that if creators haven’t said anything outright then any interpretation is completely valid.

 But honestly, these characters? This is beyond teasing, beyond hinting, beyond implying. This show ONLY HAS TEN EPISODES. Every single time one of them starts dating (or even looking at) a woman the show pulls your attention back to John and Sherlock. 

S1E1 “You have a girlfriend?” “Not my area” “Okay. Oh. Wait. Boyfriend? Which is fine” “I know its fine, im single though” “Oh me too” “…im flattered by your interest John but not right now…” “I wasn’t flirting, I’m just letting you know its OK2BGay without explicitly mentioning my own sexuality”

S1E2 “Hey sherlock im going to go on a date with this nice woman i’ve barely spoken to”  “Nope youre going on a date with us both”  “I feel like you don’t totally understand the concept of a date”  “Hanging out and eating food? we do that all the time” 

S1E3 “Hey audience Im clearly still dating the woman i met a week ago see”    “Hey there John, lemme pop into the episode for 30 seconds for the express purpose of letting them know you are sleeping on the couch” “hey did you know you can tell a gay person from being well groomed? I am well groomed did you notice?” “I did notice, hey ive known you 2 months im gonna offer to die for you” “Thanks bro, lets have a high stress scene where you almost die but lets explicitly remind the audience that this is sort of romantic in case they didn’t notice on their own” “BTW the main villian of the show acted gay on intro and then implies John was Sherlocks heart, weird”

S2E1 “Hey me and sarah broke up off screen and wont mention it, lookit this girlfriend i totally have” “Hey john i hate her” “Yeah clearly dont care about her much either– HEY ARE YOU INTERESTED IN THAT HOT GIRL SHERLOCK? JUST ASKING” “idk maybe, i havent really decided” “IM WEIRDLY INVESTED AND THE SHOW OUTRIGHT CALLED ME JEALOUS AND IN LOVE WITH YOU AND SAID SEXUAL ORIENTATION DOESNT MATTER?” “Thats fine john, btw irene fell in love with me based on an ugly photo and what you wrote about me online, guess falling in love is really easy” “Btw isn’t it interesting the main villain of the episode was gay? thats two important gayish characters in a row”

S2E2 “This episode is entirely about our friendship, btw, Im single and Im not very upset that this gay couple thinks we are gay” “I DONT HAVE FRIENDS” “Im weirdly hurt by this????” “I ONLY HAVE ONE FRIEND I LIED IM SORRY YOU ARE THE FRIEND DONT BE MAD” “Im not mad, btw i outright said you were attractive earlier in the episode did you catch that?” “

S2E3 “I PUNCHED A COP FOR YOU” “RUN AWAY HOLDING HANDS” “HERE IS ME ACTIVELY DYING FOR YOU AND IMPLYING I SPENT THE LAST 2 YEARS DOING NOTHING BUT TRYING TO IMPRESS YOU” “Crying at your graves and ill never be over this, bros4life” “

((this might sound awful but I’ve had friends AND close family members die and honestly I handled it fine, John is a doctor and he definitely lost friends in afghanistan, if Sherlock was just a buddy he should handle it okay))

S3E1  “Im your therapist, wanna tell dead sherlock anything?” “Its been 3 years and nope” “Im your landlady, i honestly never caught on that you werent dating sherlock despite seeing you two every day for 3 years” “Im getting engaged to a woman i never introduced you to, but i felt the need to look at the home i shared with sherlock first” “IM BACK ALL I CARE ABOUT IS JOHN IM SO EXCITED TO SEE HIM” “Im getting married. Here is our first opportunity to show me bonding with Mary in our home but lets undercut it with mentioning i prefer sherlocks opinion to hers” “Hey you know i literally can not function without you John, so i set up a huge elaborate thing to get you to forgive me” “I should be mad, and i am, but i forgive you totally”

S3E2 “Im getting married but this episode is literally entirely about our friendship and never at any point are me and my wife shown bonding, we didn’t even show the ceremony, and we made it clear that Sherlock planned the entire thing” “knowing John cares about me nearly broke my fucking brain, i went half crazy planning his wedding, I got supremely jealous finding out John used to have a male friend, johns wife implied me and her are on the same level in Johns affections which is weird, also no one i know thinks i can handle Johns marriage and they made SURE everyone knew it was a weirdly intense reaction for me to leave the wedding I PLANNED early” “hey im going to dance with my wife and give her a dip, thats romantic right?” “yeah thats actually suprising since you are never shown with me” “well actually sherlock taught me to dance, implying i was dipping him in the living room.” “Hes playing us a song he wrote for you right now, it isnt noticibly upbeat, hes bummed for some reason, we wont even specify why”

S3E3 “Me and Marys marriage is a month old and already unhappy” “its been a month and im already on the drugs John” “I am absolutely shocked bewildered and alarmed that you have a girlfriend, its not even REMOTELY implied that im happy for you, im in fact horrified that youre engaged to her” “I actually dont care about her at all. Ohshit your wife fuckign KILLED ME, i come back to life specifically to protect you John” “Im horrified and betrayed by my wife, why did i fall for her” “you always fall for dangerous people, thats why youre my friend” “okay im going to sherlocks parents house for christmas, also i havent spoken to my wife in about 7 months but shes still around” “cool, Im gonna sacrifice myself for you, give what is OBVIOUSLY WRITTEN TO SOUND LIKE  a botched love confession then go off to my death to save you, toodles”

TAB “The moment i left I drugged up, read Johns blog about our first meeting, imagined John trying to discuss my romantic/sexual urges with me, imagined an entire story about how women (specifically brides) are wicked, and thought about how my gay-acting archenemy would tell us to elope.”

IF THIS MUCH WAS SPREAD OVER 50 EPISODES, EVEN 20 EPISODES, I MIGHT SAY IT WAS IMPLICATIONS AND SUBTEXT OR SOMETHING

THIS IS BACK-TO-BACK ROMANTIC SITUATIONS

This doesnt even INCLUDE the CONSTANT mentions, pushes and jokes that they might be gay, the skinship, the compliments, the constant parade of gay background characters (more than most het-aimed shows dont you think? by percentage?). This is even before i found out one of the writers is gay, before I heard all the weird cagey things the actors sometimes say in interviews, just like… They couldn’t even manage to make John look happy with Mary for a minute without pushing sherlock and John together somehow, and the problem is NOT Martin’s acting. 

Honestly it just seems… weird… to pack a show so completely full with implications with no intention to ever go anywhere with it. Could’ve added more mystery, used the air time for more platonic bonding, filled it with Soldier John or Scientist Sherlock to help flesh the characters, they could’ve been running around doing London Things or showing how much trouble Lestrade gets in for their mayhem, there is just OODLES of screen time devoted to implying romantic feelings towards eachother, and in TEN EPISODES they could have honestly /used/ more time with Moriarty, more time with cases, more time with side characters, and if all the johnlock implication was just jokes then… honestly… youve wasted a shit ton of screentime for a running joke. And when that joke was ‘lol Holmes and Watson would seem gay in 2010′ i wouldnt expect one of the main creators, who is gay, to go with it, right?
